What is a Jamboree?
A World Scout Jamboree is a gathering of Scouts & Guides from across the world (normally over 150 countries), and takes place every 4 years. The event offers a unique international experience with an exciting programme of global development, peace, cultural understanding, adventure, learning fun and friendship and provides the opportunity to meet Scouts from around the globe, take
part in exciting activities and have an amazing adventure.
The theme for the 24th World Scout Jamboree is Unlock a New World. This theme highlights the new adventures, cultures, and friendships that will be shared by Scouts from around the world during the 12-day event in North America, a continent often referenced as a “New World.”
When and where is the next Jamboree?
The next World Scout Jamboree will be the 24th and will be an adventure beyond anything you can imagine. It is being hosted jointly between Boy Scouts of America, Scouts Canada and the Scout Association of Mexico.
This is the first time a World Scout Jamboree will be hosted by three National Scout Organizations and the three distinct cultures will join together to host Scouts from across the world in a celebration of cultural exchange, mutual understanding, peace and friendship.
The Jamboree will take place from 22nd July to 2nd August 2019 at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia, USA.
How were the unit members selected?
South London Scouts have been designated one unit of 36 participant places available to take part. As with previous WSJs demand has been high, with more Scouts and Explorer Scouts applying to go to the Jamboree than we can accommodate. Because of this the unit members have been selected following our selection weekend. The event was great fun and was filled with exciting challenges and was an opportunity for all the Scouts and Explorers to show the unit leaders why they should be selected to go to the Jamboree.
Details of the Jamboree fee can be found in the link below.
The costs will be paid in instalments and the instalment payment period is likely to run from November 2017 to early 2019.
Supporting and encouraging local and individual fundraising is an integral part of the Jamboree experience and fundraising teams will be established in each District to help coordinate effective fundrainsing.
