24th World Scout Jamboree - July/August 2019

What is a Jamboree?

A World Scout Jamboree is a gathering of Scouts & Guides from across the world (normally over 150 countries), and takes place every 4 years. The event offers a unique international experience with an exciting programme of global development, peace, cultural understanding, adventure, learning fun and friendship and provides the opportunity to meet Scouts from around the globe, take
part in exciting activities and have an amazing adventure.

The theme for the 24th World Scout Jamboree is Unlock a New World. This theme highlights the new adventures, cultures, and friendships that will be shared by Scouts from around the world during the 12-day event in North America, a continent often referenced as a “New World.”

Our unit selection weekend is taking place at The South London Scout Centre over the weekend of the 7th and 8th October 2017. Click here to find out more...

When and where is the next Jamboree?

The next World Scout Jamboree will be the 24th and will be an adventure beyond anything you can imagine. It is being hosted jointly between Boy Scouts of America, Scouts Canada and the Scout Association of Mexico.

This is the first time a World Scout Jamboree will be hosted by three National Scout Organizations and the three distinct cultures will join together to host Scouts from across the world in a celebration of cultural exchange, mutual understanding, peace and friendship.

The Jamboree will take place from 22nd July to 2nd August 2019 at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia, USA.

Who can attend?

The event is for young people aged between 14 and 18 at the time of the Jamboree this means anyone who is a member of Scouting across South London and was born between 22 July 2001 and 21 July 2005. There is absolutely no exceptions to this rule.

The UK Contingent will be made up of Units (participants and their Unit Leaders), members of the International Service Team and a Contingent Management and Support Team.

How are the unit members selected?

South London Scouts have been designated one unit of 36 participant places available to take part. As with previous WSJs we expect demand to be high sand more Scouts and Explorer Scouts will apply to go to the Jamboree than we can accommodate. Because of this the Unit members will be selected at a special selection weekend. The event is great fun filled with exciting challenges and is an opportunity for all the Scouts and Explorers to show the unit leaders why they should be selected to go to the Jamboree.

The UK Contingent Team are currently working on the costs for participants (young people) and Adults. We envisage this will be in line with previous Jamborees.

The costs will be paid in instalments and the instalment payment period is likely to run from November 2017 to early 2019.

Supporting and encouraging local and individual fundraising is an integral part of the Jamboree experience and fundraising teams will be established in each District to help coordinate effective fundrainsing.

NOTE: Your financial status should not be a barrier to
attending the Jamboree. Further information about the
costs of the Jamboree (including any grants available)
will be published as soon as it becomes available.
